The annual Greater Rochester Night to Honor Israel is more than just an event. By setting aside time every year, we envision the introduction of a new era in America- an era of unity, mutual respect, and lasting peace- an era when Christians and Jews stand together and announce to the world that we are united in brotherhood. It is a time set aside to pay tribute to the Jewish people for their perseverance and tenacity throughout centuries of persecution-- to honor them for the contributions they have made to human history, and to acknowledge that through them we have been blessed.
Nights to Honor Israel are non-denominational and non-partisan events. Our message is that although we may disagree on many things, when it comes to the existence of the State of Israel and rising global anti-Semitism, our communities will stand with Israel in voice and in action.
On March 25, 2007 Rochester launched its first annual Night to Honor Israel, becoming the first city in the five state Northeast region to hold such and event. For the first Greater Rochester NTHI close to fifty area churches and ministries came together to host the event. A standing room only crowd of over 1,600 people were in attendance, and that evening they contributed $25,000 to humanitarian needs in Israel. Pastor Ron Domina (NYS Director of CUFI) captured the heart of this event when he boldly proclaimed: “Let it be known today that Rochester, New York is not neutral or silent when it comes to Israel. Rochester is a city of righteousness, and we will stand with Israel in her hour of need.”
As we continue this annual tradition of Honoring Israel in Rochester, we encourage everyone in the Greater Rochester Christian Community to set aside time to attend this annual gathering. The Greater Rochester Night to Honor Israel will be held the last Sunday evening in March (except when it interferes with a Jewish or Christian Holiday). Please encourage others to be part of this vision. This is our opportunity to personally demonstrate our love and support for Israel in a very practical way.
